Day 239. Karumba

Seafood Extravaganza

The weather here is fantastic; mid 30’s with coastal breezes. This morning was so lovely I decided to take my crumpets and cuppa and sit outside, while I watched the world go by over brekkie. Scarlett was in full cartoon mode, with the satellite dish set up she has about 10 channels to choose from. So with her taken care of, Shane was doing some maintenance on the car and van.

Beautiful Mangrove Tree
We decided to have a seafood day today, because not only is it very cheap here, but it's delicious too. So at lunchtime we popped into the bakery and got some fresh bread rolls, (a true treat indeed) and then into the fish shop for some fresh barramundi to go with them. We also grabbed Scarlett some calamari chips; as they sounded interesting!

Lunch was probably the highlight of our whole day. We had fresh caught barramundi on fresh made rolls and Scarlett's calamari chips were fantastic too. The chips were basically just straight cut and crumbed pieces of calamari; they were so good they didn’t even need tartare sauce.

After lunch I grabbed a magazine, and took Scarlett over to the pool. She played for hours with the kids, which was a good relief for her from the midday heat. I sat in the shade and read, while also making a couple of phone calls to family back home. The rest of the afternoon was spent pretty much the same, although I did get a chance to catch up on some 'Underbelly' episodes off the internet.

Shane went and got another kilogram of banana prawns for dinner again, which only cost $15; making it a total bargain! He peeled and de-veined them all, and we had them again in wraps for dinner which were delicious. It's so nice not having to cook for the last two nights, and with this heat, it's a nice light meal.

Walking through the mangroves to the beach

After dinner Shane and Scarlett went for a walk down the beach to see the last chance to see a'sunset over the water' on this trip. There they also followed wallaby tracks into the mangroves, and checked out what the local fishermen were catching. Meanwhile back at the van, I settled into an evening of 'Farmer Wants a Wife'; the final episode.

When Scarlett got back she had a shower, popped a bag of pop corn, and put a movie on up in bed. Shane and I had a cuppa, and tried to guess which girls the remaining farmers had picked on 'Farmer Wants a Wife'. It was another humid evening, and unfortunalty I am starting to get sick with a sore throat. Scarlett also has a runny nose, and back home Courtney and baby Isabella are also quite sick too.

Hopefully everyone will get better soon.
