Day 282. Bargara (Bundaberg) to Hervey Bay

It's all about the rum....

A drive by photo of the Bundaberg Ginger Beer Factory
We all awoke late and very tired from our amazing experience we had last night. After a slow pack up, we made it out of the park by 10am, and went straight to the Bundy Rum Factory. This has been on Shane's list for quite some time, as he is quite the Bundaberg Rum fan.

Bundaberg Rum Factory

We didn't do the factory tour, but spent quite a bit of time (and money) in their rum shop. Shane got some goodies; including two bottles of their limited edition 'Rum Port Barrel'; of which they have only made a couple of thousand bottles. He tells me it will be a good
investment....yeah right! We also grabbed some pressies for friends back home, and I did some shopping for a good mate back at work in Brisbane.

We hit the road for Hervey Bay from here, and enjoyed staying off the Bruce Highway for part of the journey. This highway is a nightmare; the people who use it are absolutely nuts, and I'm always on edge thinking we're always about to have an accident with the many fools that try and overtake us on blind corners and at other stupid times! I was so relieved when we finally made it into Hervey Bay not long after lunch. I thank god we have made it so far this year without any incidents on the road; considering the miles we have covered.

It's a little sad to think this will be our last caravan park for the trip. Next week we are staying at 'Kingfisher Bay Resort' in a two bedroom villa for the week, then it's with friends while in Brisbane, the Gold Coast, and again on the NSW mid-north coast as we head back down to Sydney. I'm starting to get a little sad this amazing chapter of our lives is coming to an end.

A Sea Monster Sculpture on the Esplanade

We had a restful afternoon; only going out for a drive along the Esplanade in the afternoon for an ice-cream. We also stopped at their 'free' water park which was closing; so Shane promised to bring Scarlett back tomorrow for the day. Hervey Bay is beautiful along the foreshore and still holds that village atmosphere, but a block back and it has everything a major metropolitan town could ask for. We are looking forward to exploring some of the smaller surrounding towns throughout the week.
